Thebattery level icon says: "87% available (plugged in, not charging)". Multiple, multiple times I have tried removing and re-inserting the battery, rebooting, uninstalling the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" driver via the device manager, scanning the new hardware to re-find the battery and re-install the driver, over and
Goto the device manager and uninstall the ACPI driver under batteries, and reboot. Windows will automatically reinstall it. Windows 7 is notorious for this problem. It is possible that your battery is shot, but i would try this first. also, pull your battery out and put it back in. one time that was the simple fix to this problem for me.
06Sep 2013 #2. Does is says "plugged in, not charging" when battery is at 100% or around 100% like 80-90%. Because its normal for laptop to turn off charging when battery is nearly full to let it discharge for a bit and then turn on charging again. If battery isn't charged when it drops low for example 50-60% or lower then its a problem.
Ihave an Inspiron 15R and my battery is not charging. I have the genuine Windows 7 that came pre-installed and Windows, the battery icon in the task bar, reports a constant battery level of 62% (plugged in, charging.) The adapter is the original that came with the laptop and when I remove it, the laptop looses power and it simply dies.
Theadapter issue just started recently as well when i tried to install 7, my computer says its plugged in not charging. I already restarted andn did everything i could think of.I guess buying a 90 is what i'll have to do. so far this computer has cost me over $1000 and i've had it for 1 year and 1 week. Most of it had alot to do with Vista though.

Nowthat I'm unpacking and back up and running, the indicator in the system tray constantly reads "plugged in, not charging" with 8% battery (but it was 9% yesterday). However, the laptop powers off immediately whenever I unplug it from AC power, even with the lid closed in Sleep mode. I've tried several different outlets and a spare charging
